About Laser Pigment Reduction
Melanin is what gives our skin its color. Pigmented lesions are dark in color simply because melanin is abnormally concentrated in one area of the skin. High concentrations of melanin can be due to a variety of factors, including overexposure to the sun’s damaging rays, hormonal changes, or age.
Lentigines or age spots are premature ageing brown marks, which appear on the backs of hands and the face. Sunburn freckles are the result of sun damage and occur on the back, upper chest and shoulders. Most are harmless but all are ageing and may be unattractive.
Cafe au lait, Nevus of Ota, Mongolian spots and other flat pigmented birthmarks are localized areas of increased pigmentation in the skin, which are present at birth. Although most brown spots are easily ignored, many are quite conspicuous and can detract from your skin’s natural beauty.
Our GentleLase PRO is the most advanced, FDA approved laser in the world for providing safe and effective treatments and is effective in removing superficial pigmentation in as little as 1-3 treatment. Skin Pigmentation Reduction with Alexandrite 755nm is a quick, gentle and non-invasive treatment. This specially designed laser is absorbed only by the cells containing excessive concentrations of pigment. It does not affect the surrounding tissues or remove the normal skin color. The heat generated by the laser energy breaks up the pigment while, at the same time, stimulating new collagen formation. Superficial pigment will need to be protected from the sun so it will not reappear.
For deep pigmentation such as melasma, our Venus VIVIA RF Fractional or CO2 Fractional combined with Platelet Rich Plasma may be the treatments of choice as they can remove up to 80% of melanin in one treatment. What do I need to know prior to Laser Pigment Reduction?
- Do not use any creams containing Alpha-Hydroxy Acid/Glycolic Acid, Tretinoin acid or AHA for 7 days prior to treatment.
- Do not use any form of tanning for 2 weeks prior to treatments, including tanning sprays or lotions.

What can I expect during Laser Pigment Reduction?
Prior to treatment, we apply topical anesthetic to eliminate any discomfort. You will wear safety eye wear during the procedure. Make-up can be applied immediately after treatment.
AFTER LASER PIGMENT REDUCTION
What can I expect after Laser Pigment Reduction?
Laser pigmentation reduction treatment has minimal downtime. The treatment area can be easily covered with make up immediately after if required. Short term darkening of freckles/pigmented spots can occur immediately after treatment and gradually exfoliates with the skins natural process. Some very small spots can last about a week.
