Dermaplaning is a favorite among super models and celebrities, partly due to the minimal downtime after the procedure. It is a perfect 30-minute, lunch-time treatment that leaves you to continue your day with smoother, glowing skin!
Dermaplaning requires a skilled skin specialist to handle a sharp and sterile surgical blade, which gently slides over the skin at a 45-degree angle; this draws away all unwanted dead skin cells and fine facial hairs, leaving the surface extremely smooth and radiant. Clean and smooth skin, free of dead skin cells and peach fuzz, allows for greater penetration of skincare products, also creating a beautifully even canvas for makeup to glide on flawlessly.
Dermaplaning can be an effective exfoliation method for clients with sensitive skin or allergies who may not be candidates for microdermabrasion or chemical peels. Individuals with blonde, downy or grey hair are often not suitable for laser hair removal and will benefit greatly from dermaplaning; it removes all the unwanted fuzz, as well as leaving smoother fresher skin. Individual with a mixture of light and dark hair, we typically treat with a combination of waxing, laser hair removal and/or dermaplaning, to treat every hair.

Who is a good candidate for Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a great treatment for anyone with dry skin, fine lines, skin discoloration and acne scarring. It is particularly beneficial for ageing skin to assist with cell turnover. We do not recommend dermaplaning for anyone with active acne, which could be exacerbated.

What can I expect during Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is done with a sterile micro-blade held at a 45-degree angle and brushed along the surface of the skin to remove thin layers of dead skin cells and fine hair. Most people are so relaxed that they fall asleep during the treatment. Once we have completed the removal, we will cleanse again and apply a protective balm and an SPF cream.The treatment is completely painless and does not require any numbing prior to treatment
AFTER DERMAPLANING
What can I expect after Dermaplaning?
Your skin will be incredibly soft and glowing. We recommend the following aftercare:
- Patients may have a treatment every 4-6 weeks
- Avoid direct sun exposure, including sunbeds, avoid self tanners for the first week
- SPF 30+ must be applied daily to the treated area for a minimum of four weeks, however we recommend continued daily use
- Twice daily cleanse the treated area with our recommended cleanser, cream or serum, followed by SPF 30+ sunscreen
HAIR GROWTH AFTER DERMAPLANING
Will my Hair grow back thicker?
No, it definitely will not. Hair on the face is a type known as vellus hair, rather than the dark, thick terminal hair that grows elsewhere. Shaving does not in any way cause vellus hair follicles to transform into terminal hair follicles.
I was surprised about the difference dermaplaning makes when it comes to topical numbing. Last week I saw Joni for my second Viva treatment. She suggested dermaplaning before my treatment to remove dead skin cells and peach fuzz so the numbing cream would work faster. What a difference! I was so numb in half the time and I felt absolutely nothing during my Viva treatment. My skin looks so smooth now. Love it!
