About ZO Chemical Peels
Next to muscle-relaxing injections, Chemical Peels for men and women are perhaps the most common non-invasive procedure available, offering patients an incredible complexion boost by stripping away the skin’s damaged, superficial layer and revealing, new, fresh skin beneath.
A chemical solution is applied to your skin and this causes it to exfoliate and eventually peel off. The new, regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin.
What Is The Procedure Used For?
Different strengths of the chemical solution can be used to get the desired effect. Mild peels are designed to refresh dull, drab and worn-looking ‘city skin’, also helping to penetrate oil barriers, unblock pores and clear the skin of breakouts. More intense peels will help to resurface skin suffering from acne scarring, melasma and pigmentation; improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles; and rid the skin of dark spots and the effects of sun damage.

ZO® SKIN HEALTH ENZYME PEEL - LIGHT
This Enzyme Peel contains a blend of salicylic, lactic and glycolic acids and provides a superficial exfoliation. It is suitable for patients of any skin type or colour seeking to improve overall skin tone, texture and complexion - with little or no downtime. A series of 4 to 6 peels provides best results.
GLYCOLIC PEELS - LIGHT
Glycolic peels are perfect for freshening up dull, tired and worn out looking ‘city skin’, deeply exfoliating while gently resurfacing. They are suitable for all skin types - including sensitive skin - leaving the treatment area brighter, smoother and more hydrated. A course of 6 treatments, spaced one week apart, is recommended for best results.
ZO® 3 - Step Peel™ - MEDIUM
The ZO 3-Step Peel is a medical-strength peel that combines 10% TCA (trichloroacetic acid), salicylic acid, lactic acid and high-dose retinol (6%). It is indicated for patients of any skin type and colour, who require a more potent skin peel (medium strength), but with minimal downtime (3-5 days). This peel may be repeated 2-3 times annually or as required.
ZO® Controlled Depth Peel® - DEEP
A medical-strength peel which utilizex up to 30% TCA. Indicated for deep skin restoration and treatment of specific skin disorders that require full exfoliation and complete skin cell renewal. Recommended for use when scarring, severe laxity, severe texture damage and advanced melasma are of concern. Average downtime is 7-10 days.

What will a Chemical Peel do?
Chemical Peels are fantastically restorative and are especially popular amongst those seeking relief from serious skin complaints such as acne or hyperpigmentation. Many will also opt for a Chemical Peel when in search of special skin radiance for an important occasion or event.
Pending your choice of peel, you can expect to see improvements in everything from skin clarity to oil-control and scarring. They are also known for dramatically reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, pores, sun damage, age spots, pigmentation and melasma.
CHEMICAL PEEL RESULTS
How long will the results last?
Light Chemical Peels will leave your skin looking more taut and hydrated for around 1-2 months, whereas moderate peels will see results for up to 6 months. Deep visible results of their peels for up to 3 years after treatment.
Results will also depend on how well you continue to care for your skin, as best results are achieved through diligent skincare, ample moisturising and careful protection from the sun. Our dedicated skincare specialists will be happy to advise you on how to best care for your particular skin type, and extend the results of your chemical peel for as long as humanly possible.

What is the Recovery like?
Side effects of a mild chemical peel will include redness; flakiness and peeling; tightness, and moderate sensitivity in the treated area.
Side effects of more intense peels will additionally include skin tenderness, warmth, itchiness and a slight stinging sensation that may linger for up to a week after treatment. It is to be expected that skin will appear extremely red and scaly for a few weeks after a particularly deep peel, although this is entirely normal and part of the healing process. The old skin will soon fall away leaving a beautifully fresh looking layer beneath.

When can I return to Work?
Mild peels will require little to no downtime at all, and patients should be able to return to normal work duties the following day, if not before.
Recovery from a deeper peel, however, is a little more substantial and some will require a week or 2 to recuperate fully. This downtime will enable you to both appropriately care and protect your skin during the healing process when it is particularly sensitive. By 2 months, fresh, new skin will have entirely replaced the previously damaged layer and at this point, patients will be able to see the full benefits of their rejuvenating peel.
I started using the ZO® Medical program Dr. Howton prescribed for me several months ago. I found that sticking to the program was imperative and not difficult because I was very encouraged by the results I was seeing from as early as week two.
Areas where I had a lot of pigmentation / sun damage, along with uneven skin tone were improving every week. The results from the first and subsequent second peel were amazing and very enhanced by the fact that I was very diligent in adhering to the program. The 3-Step Peel gave me even clearer skin after five days, with the more stubborn patches of sun damage disappearing.
Leslie was great, helping me understand how the products worked. She was always available if I had any questions.
I am now on the level three kit Program, two weeks now into this routine and again seeing even further improvements.
I would highly recommend this product and program for improving skin tone as well as for complete eradication of sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles. I also would say it personally made me aware of the effects of sun damage, and I am now a lot more careful about how I treat my skin .
